Thank you for visiting my site. I want to tell you a little about my approach, to help in deciding whether you would like to get in touch.
The approach I use is integrative, in that my training, experience and ethos are centred around offering a wide range of therapeutic techniques and tools, geared to meet the individual client’s personality and needs. Both of my professional trainings emphasised the use of creative methods and my work is underpinned by a firm belief in the power of the arts and play in therapy, combining this with cognitive and solution-focussed approaches. That said, I believe that ultimately it is the therapeutic relationship that heals, with tools and techniques facilitating the process.
I like to work in a collaborative way, so I do not adopt a blank screen position, and where it is appropriate and useful, I share my intervention processes with the client so as to be a fellow explorer along the way, rather than an authoritative presence in the relationship. I offer short and long term work, with regular joint reviews, and believe that while continuity and consistency are vital, therapy need not be open-ended to be effective.
I view the therapeutic process and relationship as a microcosm of the wider world, as well as a reflection of the client’s inner world. I believe that the struggles we face are rooted in childhood and that when we act in ways that harm ourselves or others, we are unconsciously re-enacting behaviours that once served as a means of survival, but in the present have become blocks to moving forwards.
In terms of professional therapy experience, I have worked with a wide variety of clients, individually and in groups, including the “normal neurotic” and people with learning disabilities, and I spent eight years working at HMP Holloway with female offenders.
My personal journey has included TCK issues, depression, bereavement, recovery from addictive behaviours, motherhood, divorce, and transformation.
I have been in therapy myself for over sixteen years, which I believe is an integral part of practicing as a therapist.
I work in Archway, London N19, a short walk from the Northern Line tube.
